The World's Strength

Isaiah 41:1
Be silent before me, you islands! Let the nations renew their strength! Let them come forward and speak; let us meet together at the place of judgment.

Comment

While those who wait on the Lord renew their strength in Him, the nations also renew their strength, but not in the Lord. Rather they renew their strength in one another and in their idols.
"each helps the other and says to his brother, "Be strong!"   The craftsman encourages the goldsmith, and he who smooths with the hammer spurs on him who strikes the anvil. He says of the welding, "It is good." He nails down the idol so it will not topple." Is 41:6,7
People in the world receive strength when they come together and build their tower of Babel. But their strength will not endure.
"you are less than nothing and your works are utterly worthless; he who chooses you is detestable."Is 41:24

"See, they are all false! Their deeds amount to nothing; their images are but wind and confusion." Is 41:29

One may be awed at the wonders of modern technology and the accomplishments of mankind. One may claim to take pride in their nationality, political affiliation and membership in secular organizations. But "before him all the nations are as nothing; they are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing." Is 40:17
