Isaiah 50:11 But now, all you who light fires and provide
yourselves with flaming torches, go, walk in the light of your fires and
of the torches you have set ablaze. This is what you shall receive from
my hand: You will lie down in torment.

What should you do when in darkness? In verse 10 those who fear God simply
trust God. But here in verse 11 instead of trusting God they light their
own way. And much as this allegory may allude some, it's quite easy to
understand. Where should we get our world view, our philosophy of life
from? Those who trust God will go to God's revelation - the Bible. Others,
however, will opt for their own personal philosophy or that of another
individual or group they identify with. The Bible says, "Trust
in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."Pr

In fact there are even those who go to the Bible, but go with deviant
motives, not trusting God but reading their own philosophy into the Bible
rather than reading God's philosophy out of the Bible. An example would
be those who, in order to justify their chosen lifestyle or in order to
syncretize one's corrupt culture with the Bible, attempt to get around
passages clearly condemning things like homosexuality, by applying
such deviant hermenuetics as "that was then, this is now", or "the Bible
was only speaking of a specialized version of homosexuality", or simply
ignore significant passages on the subject. So also with many ideas in
which the Bible conflicts with the popular culture.
Those who walk in God's light are safe. But those who walk in their
own light will lie down (in death) in torment.
