The Messiah - Despised and Exalted

Isaiah 52:13-15
See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. Just as there were many who were appalled at him—his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness— so will he sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand.

Comment

Jesus was raised, lifted up and exalted to the right hand of the Father. He went from the position of servant to that of ruler; from that of despised to that of honored. John writes, "in this world we are like him." 1John 4:17 In this world we Christians should also naturally expect to be despised as our Lord was. And remember the words of our Lord:
"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me." John 15:18-21
And so also our destiny. For as Jesus was raised and exalted so also can we look forward to the glory to come. For we will also be raised from the dead to glory and reign with Christ.
