Finale

Isaiah 66:22-24
"As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me," declares the LORD, "so will your name and descendants endure. From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me," says the LORD.  "And they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind."

Comment

In these final words of Isaiah we once again see this promise of a legacy. And notice the contrast with the fate of the rebellious.
"In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade— kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time." 1Peter 1:3-5
The new heaven and earth is also mentioned in the last book of the Bible - Revelation 21:1 "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away"  So also Peter says, "in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness" 2Peter 3:13 But of the former he says, "The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare." 2Peter 3:10

Therefore "Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives" 2Peter 3:11 and "make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him." 2Peter 3:14
