Proverbs on Generosity

21:26 There are those who covet greedily all the day long;
But the righteous give and don’t withhold.

Benefits of Generosity

Besides the obvious benefit to the needy who are the object of our generosity, there are also reciprocal benefits to the giver.
11:24 There is one who scatters, and increases yet more.
There is one who withholds more than is appropriate, but gains poverty.

11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat.
He who waters shall be watered also himself.

22:9  He who has a generous eye will be blessed;
For he shares his food with the poor.

28:27  One who gives to the poor has no lack;
But one who closes his eyes will have many curses.

But the kind of giving spoken of here is different than that practiced by many who try to win the favor of the rich or powerful by giving them gifts, for the giving being spoken of here is directed to the poor and needy. In fact wasting one's generosity on the rich is likened to oppressing the poor.
22:16  Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase
and whoever gives to the rich, Both come to poverty.

Recommendation: find Some Christian Charities

But let us not boast about our generosity. Let's just simply do it, for:
25:14 As clouds and wind without rain,
So is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.
