THE DAY OF WRATH
"The great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"
Revelation 6:17
Words: Unknown; appeared in A Collection of Hymns, for the Use of the
People Called Methodists, by John Wesley (1703-1791).
Music: "Zephyr," William Batchelder Bradbury (1816-1868).
The day of wrath, that dreadful day,
When heaven and earth shall pass away:
What power shall be the sinner's stay?
How shall he meet that dreadful day?
When, shriveling like a parched scroll,
The flaming heavens together roll,
And louder yet, and yet more dread,
Swells the high trump that wakes the dead.
O! on that day, that awful day,
When man to judgment wakes from clay,
Be Thou, O Christ! the sinner's stay,
Though heaven and earth shall pass away.
