“我栽種了，亞波羅澆灌了﹔惟有神叫他生長。可見栽種的算不得什么，澆灌的也算不得什么﹔只在那叫他生長的神。”歌林多前書３：６，７所以，福音的仆人(執事)，或任何其它的人，不要把這種成長全歸功于自己，或把神所做的工歸功到自己身上。我們也不應改把太多的功勞歸到“精神領袖”的身上，因為這樣做往往在基督徒中造成分裂，這正是保羅在歌林多前書第三章這段話的上下文。
這個寓言的另一應用就是結果實并不需要做出太多的努力。耶穌從我們拿去五張餅、兩條魚，使它們加多，使几千人吃飽。這應該提醒那些聲稱沒有時間事奉的人：少少地做一點，看看結果會是什么。當你享受到第一次收獲的時候，你就會更有經驗，有更多的動力去做更多的。
