“我栽种了，亚波罗浇灌了；惟有神叫他生长。可见栽种的算不得什么，浇灌的也算不得什么；只在那叫他生长的神。”歌林多前书３：６，７所以，福音的仆人(执事)，或任何其它的人，不要把这种成长全归功于自己，或把神所做的工归功到自己身上。我们也不应改把太多的功劳归到“精神领袖”的身上，因为这样做往往在基督徒中造成分裂，这正是保罗在歌林多前书第三章这段话的上下文。
这个寓言的另一应用就是结果实并不需要做出太多的努力。耶稣从我们拿去五张饼、两条鱼，使它们加多，使几千人吃饱。这应该提醒那些声称没有时间事奉的人：少少地做一点，看看结果会是什么。当你享受到第一次收获的时候，你就会更有经验，有更多的动力去做更多的。
