可是,用律法师典型的方式,这个人试图绕过律法,把律法变得更合自己的胃口。如果律法说要爱邻舍的话,也许我们可以限定“邻舍”的意义,这样就可减少我们的责任。这看上去很可笑,但我发现这种“让我来按我所选择的生活方式来解释圣经”,而不是从圣经得出我们的生活方式的态度,在基督徒中很普遍,甚至到了很严重的程度。这就是耶稣讲这个寓言的上下文。
祭司和利末人代表宗教精英。这些人的特点是傲慢和假冒为善。他们歧视那些在他们看来低人一等的人,比如撒玛利亚人。撒玛利亚人当时受人歧视。因为他们虽然信犹太教,但不是纯粹的犹太人。他们是血统上和神学上的混血儿,而当时的犹太宗教精非常歧视外族人。耶稣乐于羞辱自高的,升高谦卑的,这是他的特点,所以他在这个寓言里用了撒玛利亚人。
但耶稣对祭司和利末人的描绘并非夸张。听众,还有这个律法师都知道这一点。我可以想见,在他们看见这样一个不幸的人时,这个祭司和利末人都会问他们自己这个律法师所问的同样的问题(“谁是我的邻舍?”)。我可想见,他们会在他们的头脑里进行一个小型神学辩论,急切地想从圣经里为他们不停下来帮助这个人找出“根据”。果然,凭着多年的苦读,他们为把自己从这个责任里开脱出来找到了借口。
有些人(当然不是所有人)学习圣经,甚至去神学院,只是为了绕过圣经所说的。他们看到所需,但运用他们的神学不去予以满足。在这样做的过程中,这种人往往试图把律法的义降低到他们可以达到的水平。这样,因为认识不到自己的罪性,他们就没有因罪得赦免而得来的,恩典的义。
回来想一下这个行义的人所做的。
耶稣意在使人知道律法的要求是多么高。这样就使人做好准备,即使是自以为是的人,去接受恩典的福音。因为恩典的福音包含着律法以外的义,这个义是通过信耶稣基督由神而来到所有信了的人的。
